The Fiji Muslim League is providing food packs to underprivileged families facing difficulties as a result of the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Harold.
So far, the league has successfully distributed 570 food packs to Lomaiviti, Maro, Cuvu in Sigatoka, Nausori, Makoi, Nasinu, Suva, Navua, Ba, Rarawai, Varavu and Tavua.
League president Hafizud Dean Khan said the organisation would continue the relief movement as the holy month of Ramadan had commenced this week.
“The Fiji Muslim League has been at the forefront with relief activities immediately in the aftermath of TC Harold and after the lockdown and hardship brought about by measures taken to mitigate against COVID-19,” he said.
“With holy month of Ramadan commencing soon, Insha Allah we will continue with our relief work during this month, it is a standard tradition worldwide and is customary in Fiji as well that Muslims engage in feeding the disadvantaged, poor and needy, and neighbours, keeping in mind the current restrictions on social gathering and movements.”
League branches around the country also organised food packs for uniformed officers manning checkpoints in Suva and Nadi.
The league encouraged all Muslims to forward monetary contributions for Ramadan to ensure the feeding program was conducted effectively.
