FIJI has lost her most successful singer, songwriter, producer and entertainer with the passing away of music icon Daniel Rae Costello (Danny).

The 58-year-old former Lautoka resident passed away in Australia on Monday.

He was by far the most outstanding musician that Fiji had ever produced in terms of originality, consistency and he was a stickler for musical perfection at every performance.

In a career that spanned four decades, no other English-speaking artist in Fiji has recorded as many albums and produced as many hits as Danny.

None have enjoyed the success that he had in Fiji and across the Pacific into Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

From the album Tropical Sunset released in 1979 right through to Light Up The World released in 2009, Danny knew how to write hits and was widely regarded as Fiji’s most prolific songwriter with more than 20 albums under his belt.

His brother Vincent Costello said Danny was more than a brother.

“He was my closest friend and the thing I will miss the most about him is the way we would laugh at everything and anything,” he shared.

Vincent said the family would hold a private funeral service in Australia before announcements would be made for a memorial service at the Christian Outreach Centre in Lautoka.
