Murder suspect further remanded

A 34-YEAR-OLD man charged with the murder of his wife was been further remanded by the High Court in Suva today.

Tevita Deve who is alleged to have assaulted his 21-year-old -wife and murdered her by making her drink paraquat in March this year is charged with one count of murder.

The alleged incident happened at Naikorokoro Village in Levuka, Ovalau.

State lawyer, Susan Serukai objected to the bail application as they had evidence in the case and direct witnesses for the alleged incident.

She said the State would be calling six to eight witnesses during the trial.

Defense lawyer, Kavshik Prasad said they would be filing a new formal bail application.

Justice Daniel Goundar remanded the accused and set a trial date from November 4, 2019 for one week.

The case has been adjourned to August 1, for pre-trial conference.
