Murder accused fronts court

The case of a 40-year-old man charged for the alleged murder of Suman Lata of Tomuka, Lautoka, has been transferred to the High Court.

Safil Ali made his first court appearance before Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone yesterday, charged with one count of murder, one count of arson and two counts of criminal intimidation.

Mr Ali was further remanded and the case adjourned to August 12.

The suspect is alleged to have attacked the deceased in her home.

After attacking the deceased and her dogs, Mr Ali is alleged to have locked the 46-year-old in her room before setting her double storey home on fire.

The house containing two flats was also home to three tenants.

The Nadi taxidriver later surrendered himself to police.
