THERE is much to be done in regards to environmental approvals.

This is the belief of Opposition MP Lenora Qereqeretabua who will be presenting on the issue at the 2019 Construction Industry Council conference to be held next month.

“We would do well to seek the expertise of environmental experts, activists, and scientists, currently working and operating in Fiji,” Ms Qereqeretabua said.

She will discuss the processes, existing laws and the current state of environmental consideration in the construction industry.

“I’d like those in the construction industry to go away with a greater appreciation of the considerable effect that the industry has on the environment, both directly and indirectly,” she said.

The need for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) on proposed developments will be elaborated on at the 2019 Construction Industry Council (CIC) Conference, scheduled to be held from June 13-15 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
