The recent fatal incident of a fisherman and the death of a bosun in Ono-i-Lau are being investigated by the Maritime and Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).

This, according to MSAF chairman David Kolitagane, who also said a preliminary investigation had established a detailed plan and timeline moving forward.

He said at this stage, MSAF could not disclose any details until a full investigation was completed.

He said the duration of investigations varied.

“MSAF takes customer complaints and investigations very seriously and we strive to ensure that cases are also addressed amicably with operators in a timely manner, as per our policy,” Mr Kolitagane said.

In addressing the safety of vessels and passengers, he said MSAF also conducted training and awareness for boat master licences and refresher courses which were facilitated by the Fiji Maritime Academy.
