The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) says it is continuing its investigation into the maritime accident in Nabouwalu last month.

The authority says it is conducting this in consultation with Police.

In a statement issued today, it stated that it had conducted a preliminary investigation on the same day of the accident, and that it had established a detailed plan and timeline moving forward.

“At this stage, MSAF cannot disclose any details until the completion of the full investigation,” the authority said.

“The duration of an investigation varies and depends on a case-by-case basis.

“MSAF takes customer complaints and investigations very seriously and we strive to ensure that cases are also addressed amicably with operators in a timely manner as per our policy.”

The collision of two vessels in waters outside Nabouwalu on Vanua Levu resulted in the death of a fisherman.
