Students under the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) will now be able to receive their allowances on the Digicel MyCash app.

This, after Digicel Fiji with TSLS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday.

TSLS acting chief executive officer Dr Hasmukh Lal said there had been a demand from students, mainly Digicel users, for TSLS to pay students allowances through the app.

“There is a substantial number of students who are Digicel users on the TSLS system and this number is expected to increase as new students come onboard,” he said.

“While planning to expand in digital solutions for the service delivery, it was a timely approach by Digicel to TSLS to have provisions of MyCash for the payment of allowance to the students.”

He said the current generations of students were keen to engage in cashless transactions and MyCash provided the perfect platform as it allowed students to make direct purchases.

Digicel Fiji chief executive officer Farid Mohammed said the app had seen an exponential growth.

He said they had invested substantially in developing the product.

University of Fiji Students Association president Maca Ratabua said the MoU would assist sponsored students get easy access to payment of bills and also the purchase of goods and services.
