MOTORISTS on Taveuni have pleaded with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to attend to roads in flood prone areas.

The plea follows the continuous flooding of Naiyalayala Rd near Wairiki.

Taxi operator Deep Chand said every time it rained, a portion of the road at Naiyalayala would go under water.

“So it has become a norm for us as we go through this during rainy days,” he said.

“The road in Naiyalayala gets flooded and sometimes we can’t take the vehicles across because the water level is quite high. And this road can be under water for a few days so it’s important for FRA to do something.”

Another taxi operator Ajay Kumar shared similar experience with the flooded roads on the island.

“We don’t know whether it is blocked drains that is causing the flood but it has been happening for a while,” he said.

FRA chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said the issue had been rectified.

“We are aware that this is a recurring problem and we are currently developing a scheme to permanently solve this issue,” he said.
