A woman from Burenitu Village in Nalawa, Ra, is believed to be Fiji’s latest road fatality following a motor vehicle accident in Tailevu yesterday afternoon.

Police say the victim, her sister and four-year-old daughter were passengers in a car driven by her father, and they were travelling along Kings Road.

Police say their vehicle was hit by a truck driven by a 44-year-old man at Dakuivuna in Tailevu around 2pm.

“The suspect is alleged to have lost control of his truck causing it to veer onto the opposite lane resulting in the accident,” police said.

“The victim’s father, sister and four-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and all are admitted at the Colonial War Memorial hospital.”

The suspect will be questioned soon as investigations continue.

The national road death toll stands at 18 compared to three for the same period last year.
