THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Territorial Force wives, and mothers teams were overall winners in the 2018 Army Wives and Mothers Sports competition on Friday in Suva.
The three-day tournament ended with the TF Brigade Club scooping the netball A grade and the veteran netball titles this year.
Tournament chief guest, the Minister for Youth and Sport Laisenia Tuitubou said tournaments such as this served as a crucial way for players to relax, unwind, bond and recharge.
“It is important that you bond as a team and face your opponents as one,” the outgoing sports minister said.
“Your selection for the Sukuna Bowl tournament means that your comrades have faith in you to carry the fight, to your opponents in blue.
“I am confident that the support from your partners and families will be abundant during the Sukuna Bowl championship. As RFMF wives and mothers, your contribution to the military forces is often unseen because you are always in the background carrying out your daily tasks and activities silently. However your contribution is invaluable and appreciated even though not always acknowledged. Life as a military partner is not for everyone, the strains of military life mean you are prone to anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress and issues with children.
“Sports and exercise help alleviate this. Sport is not just a simple game; it is much more than that. It symbolises a dream to an individual and to a team.”
Tuitubou reassured support to those who have been selected in the Sukuna championship squad.
