The annual Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea raised more than $40,000 this year in yet another successful fundraiser hosted by the Motibhai Group of Companies.
The morning tea held at the company’s Nadi headquarters on Wednesday drew a crowd of supporters who generously gave to an initiative that supports the Fiji Cancer Society.
Motibhai Group executive director Bhupendra Patel said the amount raised was the highest collected in the Bushells Fiji’s Morning Tea’s 18 year history.
“This iconic event which we know as the Bushells Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea has provided patient care and support and helped save the lives of thousands of patients over the years,” Mr Patel said.
Fiji Cancer Society CEO Belinda Chan said every dollar collected during the campaign was important.
“Every dollar helps the society fund our important patient support and cancer prevention programs,” Ms Chan said.
“We are indebted to the Motibhai Group and the iconic Bushells brand for their longstanding commitment and support for our much-loved event.”
Ms Chan said cancer was the third highest killer in Fiji but many cancers could be prevented.
“In this year’s campaign, we really want Fijians to acknowledge that the key to whether they develop NCDs like cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease is in their hands, that they need to play an active part in improving their lifestyle for better health now and for their future.”
Ms Chan also urged Fijians to live a more healthier lifestyle. “Ask yourself how you’re doing on those lifestyle measures and make the necessary changes.”
