More than 400 cabin crew at Fiji Airways have been terminated, along with a few hundred staff.

The Fiji Times has not been able to confirm the actual number of staff terminated as yet.

A spokesperson for the airline said a press release on the issue will be made soon.

According to a termination letter sighted by this newspaper, Fiji Airways says the terminations are a direct result of the severe effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the airline.

The letter also states the company is unable to fulfil workers contract of employment and staff were terminated as of today and there were details about payments that will be made to each worker.

The Fiji Times is attempting to contact the cabin crew union for comment on the issue.

More on this issue as it develops.
