Lami residents claimed last Friday they had issues with Vodafone’s M-PAiSA service.

They said when they tried to withdraw funds from their M-PAiSA accounts, staff members at the Shop n Save Supermarket, an M-Paisa agent in Lami, said they would not pay out withdrawals but would accept payments for groceries by scanning the QR code.

Elenoa Rogers said as a result, people formed long lines outside another agent in Lami Town.

“The staff told me and other people standing in the line that they would not be doing withdrawals but we could deposit and buy from the supermarket by scanning the QR code,” she said.

“This has put people in a precarious position with regards to accessing funds.

“People started lining up at other agents, forming long line that stretched all the way to Nukuwatu settlement.

“Not everybody shops at Shop n Save or they may need to buy from the market and they need cash to do that.”

Attempts to get comments from Shop n Save Supermarket officials were unsuccessful.

Vodafone Fiji head of e-Commerce and Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad said last Friday these were not normal times and Vodafone was doing its best with all the lockdowns and restrictions to continue to provide services in a very difficult operating environment.
