EIGHTY per cent of the problems faced by the Department of Environment and Waterways was caused by the misunderstanding between the department and stakeholders, says permanent secretary Joshua Wycliffe.
He said most of the issues they had in environment management was because of lack of awareness on the department’s procedures.
“It is a question of the relationship between the department and its stakeholders,” Mr Wycliffe said.
“The intention of this is to get investors and other stakeholders together on the same par with the department.
“Recently, the Northern Division has been having an influx in investors with most of them involved in logging, gravel extraction and hotel construction.
“The Department of Environment and Waterways would like to develop and conduct things in a fast manner and one of the things that we are pushing to happen is that our services are tangibly good, reliable, fast, efficient and full of empathy.”
