UNIVERSITY of the South Pacific’s School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE) head, Professor Sudesh Mishra, plans to appoint a new director for the Oceania Centre in the coming months.

“Oceania Centre has recently become part of SPACE and it is very close to my heart because it is the creative arm of USP,” he said.

“We operate at the level where we can say that we are internationally known, and the Oceania Centre, in particular, has played an important role in getting us recognised.

“I aim to hire a new director and we need to get the right person with a solid knowledge of regional cultures and creative arts.”

He said he aimed to revive the creative aspects of the Oceania Centre.

“We want students to start learning to paint, play music, to compose poetry or to write plays. We want that whole creative energy that used to be there back.

“Students will be provided a space to express themselves creatively while doing their academic work.”
