IN order to create a level playing field and eradicate poverty, there is a need to provide equal opportunities for both men and women in the formulation of macro-economic and social policies.

Minister for Women, Mereseini Vuniwaqa highlighted this at the opening of a training program on sewing for women at the Pacific Theological College in Nasese, Suva yesterday.

Mrs Vuniwaqa said through this, the impact of policies on women would likely be considered in the country’s development programs.

She said the sewing machine program co-ordinated under the Fiji Women’s Federation would assist in empowering women to take on entrepreneurial ventures.

“The sewing machine program also provides an opportunity for women to develop project management skills and embark on social entrepreneurship whereby they are able to employ other women,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.
