GIFTS made to schools need to be vetted because some schools receive more than others and “it would be better off if they went to those who really needed assistance”, says divisional education officer West Ratu Josefa Gavidi.
He said to ensure this happened, every visitation or gifts made to a school must be made known to the ministry first.
Ratu Osea made the comment while addressing school heads and managers in Nadi recently.
He said the regulation was also for the protection of all Fijian children.
Ratu Osea said this was well stipulated in the ministry’s child protection policy guideline.
“There were some schools that had received more and some that may not have received any donations at all, so for some of these donations it would be better off if they went to those who really needed assistance,” he said.
“Everyone needs to be aware of the school visitation policy and the child protection policy.
“Nadi and Lautoka have schools that receive lots of donations from tourists, therefore, donations need to be fairly distributed among other schools.”
