Vaccination for children between the ages of five and 11 years commenced yesterday, except for the Western Division, which commences next Monday, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong.
He said the ministry started rolling out the second dose for children last Wednesday and would offer opportunities for schools that had missed out on their initial first doses.
Dr Fong urged parents living in Lautoka to ensure their children’s vaccination consent cards were signed and sent to their school.
He said anyone over the age of 18 who had taken their first booster shot dose could receive their second booster dose after an interval of four months.
“Persons over the age of 18 years who have completed their primary series three months prior can receive their first booster dose,” Dr Fong said.
“Immunocompromised persons and those over the age of 60 years who had received the third booster dose may receive the fourth dose after a period of four months.”
Dr Fong said health care workers, port staff, tourism and others who wished to receive a second booster dose might receive it after an interval of four months from their first booster dose.
He said as of Monday (August 22), 163,415 Fijians had received their first booster dose, which was 52.3 per cent of the target population, and 24,673 people had so far received their second booster dose.
