So far, 633 cases of dengue fever and 44 typhoid cases have been recorded in the country this year, according to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

In a statement, the ministry said it was expected during this time of the year.

The statement said the number of typhoid cases recorded this year was equivalent to the recorded number last year.

“Typhoid fever is typically found in areas that did not have access to clean drinking water,” the statement said.

“We strongly encourage people who live in rural areas, informal urban areas, and any other areas where access to clean drinking water is limited, to boil all drinking water.

“We must all also continue to practise basic hygiene measures such as frequently washing hands with soap and water, especially after visiting the toilet and before eating or preparing food.”

The Health Ministry urged members of the public to get rid of potential mosquito breeding places, such as empty containers inside and outside their homes that may collect water, including discarded tyres, flower vases, and pot plant bases.
