A total of 149 hairdressers and barbers applications have been approved with 503 people re-employed.

This was according to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport statement on its online social platform, as 58 applicants in the Central and 91 in the Western Division have been approved to operate.

The owners of The Boss Barbershop Hemant Chand and Kameel Deo re-emphasised the importance of operating with extra precautions.

“It has always been about thinking things differently,” said Mr Chand.

It was stated that for the safety of their customers and employees, the business located in Garden City, Raiwai uses a UV salon steriliser machine.

This machine is used to disinfect used tools, equipment and headpieces before they are used on another customer.

Mr Chand and Mr Deo said education and technology had played an important part in increasing awareness on elevating hygiene protocols among hairdressing and barber shop operators.

They said they planned to maintain this going forward.
