The Ministry of Employment is continuing its investigation into comments regarding passport retention for foreign workers uttered by Carpenters Fiji general manager Daniel Whippy this month.

When asked for an update, Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh said they, as the Ministry for Employment, had written to the Carpenters Group and sought clarification on the statement that was made by Mr Whippy.

“We are awaiting their response, once we receive their response, we will take the next step,” he said.

In a number of press releases published in the dailies, Carpenters Fiji denied the allegations and stated the remark was made as a joke.
