A NEW employment agency was approved today by the Employment Ministry to operate in Lautoka providing services for those seeking overseas employment.

The agency – Alpha Pacific Navigation Ltd – will operate from 33 Namoli Avenue, Lautoka for a period of one year, effective from June 18, 2018.

The approval was given by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Permanent Secretary Salaseini Daunabuna.

According to a Government media statement issued earlier this afternoon, the new employment agency went through stringent requirements set out in the Employment Relations (Employment Agencies) Regulations 2008 before they were authorized to operate an employment agency.

With this, Fiji’s Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate has urged all Fijians to only go through authorised employment agencies for any overseas employment and also to contact the ministry for advice.

“Any company that fails to register as an Employment Agency and illegally operates an employment business will be liable to a fine upon conviction of not less than $4,000.00 and not more than $10,000.00 or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year or both,” Mr Usamate said.

Mr Usamate further reminded members of the public not to pay their hard earned cash to unauthorised and scrupulous individuals that pretend to send individuals for overseas employment.

Members of the public are urged to report to the nearest Ministry of Employment Office or to the nearest Police Station any information on person(s) collecting money and promising overseas employment.
