Minister assures of disease control programme

Update: 4:56PM COMMUNICABLE diseases control is an established program for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
Line minister Rosy Akbar clarified this in Parliament today while responding to a question by Government Member of Parliament Alivereti Nabulivou today.
Mr Nabulivou had asked if Ms Akbar could inform the House if our health system with measures in place will be able to provide a comprehensive and effective health response in the event of a disaster or communicable disease outbreak.
Ms Akbar said the program is not only emphasised during natural disasters but more so the on-going approach taken to focus on primary prevention and control of endemic diseases throughout the year.
This involves the prevention of major communicable diseases such as typhoid, dengue fever, leptospirosis, diarrhoea, influenza measles and cholera,� Ms Akbar said.
