THE Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau, has confirmed that a boat master training will be organised for all fishermen in the maritime islands.
This was after villagers of Kia Island in the Macuata province raised their concern on having a boat master training for fishermen during the Government’s maritime tour last week.
In an interview, Mr Koroilavesau said they would organise through the Commissioner Northern’s office for a training to be conducted.
“Having a boat master training was also a subject requested by fishermen from Kadavu and the Lomaiviti group,” he said.
The boat master training will help empower the existing boat operators and new boat operators on the island.
Mr Koroilavesau said the ministry would facilitate the program.
“We will facilitate the program and also in conjunction with the Commissioner Northern’s Office just to make sure that the trainers come here and they conduct the training in Labasa for the surrounding areas.”
The training will be held next year.
