Monies given to people for assistance through the “FNPF framework” is not coming out from their FNPF account, says Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum told Parliament the funds were actually coming from the Government.

He said a lot of those receiving the assistance through the FNPF framework no longer had funds in their general account.

“So Government has now funded up to the tune of $161 million through the FNPF framework,” he said. “I think that really needs to be understood by the honourable member that the Government is funding it directly. “This includes, of course, those who have been receiving $220 a fortnight since June of last year, those who are receiving what we call “on reduced hours” or some people saying they are working five days a week, working two days or one day or three days, they are also getting funds for the days that they are not working.”
