FOR 25-year-old Milika Tuivanuavou, the Pacific Games can’t come soon enough after being selected as captain alongside Eugene Vollmer.
The soft-spoken lass who will be taking part in her third Pacific Games this year brings with her a wealth of experience and stature to the Athletics Fiji squad.
After spending a couple of years training in the US, she is ready to do her part when the games begin on July 4.
Tuivanuavou said she was honoured to be selected as captain of the squad.
“This is my biggest achievement so far in my life. I’m really privileged to be leading a young team. I have been training really well with my USA coach who has really helped me a lot,” Tuivanuavou said.
“The team has a lot of heart and I believe that we should do well at the games. For me personally, I will be aiming to win three gold medals in the events I am competing in. The standard at the games have improved significantly over the last ten years and this will be a learning curve for most of the new athletes who I believe have the capabilities of setting the games on fire.”
Tuivanuavou will be competing in the shot put, long jump and triple jump events at the games.
