Mick Byrne is new Fijian Drua coach

Mick Byrne has been confirmed as the new Fijian Drua Head coach.

The announcement was made by the Fiji Rugby Union this afternoon.

Byrne was the skills coach with the New Zealand men’s rugby union team that won the World Cup in 2011 and 2015.

He was appointed as kicking coach for the Australian rugby union team in 1998 and national skills coach with the Australian Rugby Union from 2016 to 2020.

Byrne worked as a consultant for the Canadian women’s sevens team for nine years from 2012 before taking over as head coach.

He served as the Japan national team forwards and skills coach between 2009 and 2011. He has also held other national and club coaching positions in England, Scotland, South Africa, Ireland, Japan and New Zealand.
