THE Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma yesterday deliberated on how they could engage and count its non-active members.

During the last day of the church’s annual conference, it was revealed that the total number of people who were part of the denomination was more than 190,000.

The last census showed that 309,000 Fijians were members of the church.

Church’s secretary for communication and overseas mission Rev Wilfred Regunamada said the church would now be deriving a new format on how it would record the number of people who were part of the church.

He said majority of individuals who were part of the church were not recorded and at times, only names of active members were recorded.

“We have to look at this spiritually because this is a spiritual mission and challenge which addresses the spiritual welfare of our members,” he said.

“The other is to engage divisional and circuit ministers to take the leading role in counting our members.”

Church president Rev Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa had also reiterated that church leaders must focus on evangelism.
