Methodist Church deputy GS passes on

THE deputy general secretary of the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma the Reverend Jeremaia Waqainabete has died, a statement from the church read.

Mr Waqainabete died on Saturday morning at his Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma residence in Pender St, Suva.

Originally from Moala in Lau, Mr Waqainabete served in circuit ministry.

Before taking up office as deputy general secretary, he was the superintendent minister of the Wesley Division.

He attained a Diploma in Theology and Bachelor of Divinity from the Davuilevu Theological College in Nausori and also a Master of Arts in Applied Theological Studies from Queen’s University in Birmingham, UK.

Mr Waqainabete was a champion for environmental stewardship by the church and last year launched a publication on Christian Environmentalism in association with World Wide Fund for Nature Pacific.

He also had a strong social justice focus.

The formal funeral gathering will begin tomorrow at the Jubilee Hall in Toorak, Suva, and he will be laid to rest on Friday.
