Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Viliame Gavoka said a meeting held at the Nausori Village hall yesterday by some party members was “illegal”.

He said the party was conducting an investigation to ascertain who organised the forum.

“We need to get to the bottom of it,” he said.

“We’ve said to them very clearly, do the honourable thing if they want to resign.”

SODELPA general secretary Lenaitasi Duru claimed the purpose of the meeting was to remove him as the general secretary and Mr Gavoka as leader.

“The meeting was arranged and financed by certain rogue members,” Mr Duru claimed.

“They went to Nausori Village under the vanua of Kubuna pretending that the president Ratu Epenisa Cakobau had organised the meeting.”

He claimed the matter had been reported to the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem and police.

“We feel obligated to expose this illegality before it creates harm to the vanua and loyal supporters of SODELPA.”

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said no reports had been lodged.
