Meet to focus on children’s rights in the Pacific

SAVE the Children Fiji hopes next month’s United Nations Child Rights Committee meeting in Samoa will be one where the Pacific and Fiji’s situation on child rights will be discussed in a transparent way.

The five-day meeting which will begin on March 2 will be the first time any of the UN human rights treaty bodies, will hold a session outside Geneva and New York.

The meeting will focus on the situation of children’s rights in the Pacific region.

The NGO said the upcoming meeting was a vital one for them as a body mandated to promote child rights in the country.

It said they were liaising with Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to confirm funding of their representation at the meeting.
