Standout performers in the Skipper Cup competition could be used as a medical joker for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side in Super Rugby Pacific.

Medical joker is a rugby jargon used for a player who joins a club as an injury replacement on a short-term basis.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said with the injury list expected to grow for the Fijian Drua, the start of the Skipper Cup competition could not have come at a better time.

“Some of the players have been continuing with their injuries but we know it’s a tough season and as we start to play against teams from New Zealand we can expect more injuries that is why we are running the competition (Skipper Cup) parallel to them.

“If anyone stands out in the Skipper Cup they can act as medical jokers to the Drua. They can fill in the gap while people recover from their injuries.”

Meanwhile, the Fijian Drua play the Melbourne Rebels in Round 3 of Super Rugby Pacific at 8.45pm tomorrow at Sunshine Coast Stadium in Brisbane.
