THIRTEEN participants from different organisations within the media fraternity are attending a four-day workshop on parliamentary reporting in Suva.

Coinciding with the second session of the Fijian Parliament, the workshop which will end this Friday is being facilitated by the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS) working with the UNDP’s Effective Governance team and with the endorsement of the Fiji Media Association.

The workshop builds on the parliamentary reporting workshop delivered in Fiji in 2016, by ABC trainer and journalist Steve Chase who will be holding the workshop sessions this week.

The topics covered during the training include:

  • Quality parliamentary reporting
  • Parliamentary systems
  • Opportunities and challenges of parliamentary reporting
  • Producing story action plans on parliamentary reporting
  • Writing parliamentary reports
  • The role of the media as an intermediary between politicians and citizens
  • Investigative journalism for parliamentary stories
  • Research for parliamentary stories
  • Interviewing skills for parliamentary stories.

Dyfan Jones, the UNDP Parliamentary Development Specialist and Rosi Doviverata – the Managing Editor Digital at the Fiji Sun, are co-trainers for this workshop.
