Media barred from retreat

PERMANENT secretaries from various Government ministries took time out on Monday to attend a retreat.

The Permanent Secretaries Retreat at Warwick Hotel in Korolevu was officiated by Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Service Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

A total of 17 permanent secretaries were present at the retreat event.

The purpose and focus of the retreat was not clear because members of the media were not briefed on it.

An official invitation for the media was sent out by the Department of Information on Sunday afternoon and again yesterday morning.

However, members of the media were advised to leave the room after the arrival of Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

During a similar retreat last year, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, in his official address, reminded permanent secretaries that Government had set out certain expectations for permanent secretaries to improve transparency and accountability within the Fijian civil service.

The chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Vishnu Mohan, was also present at the meeting.
