Measles outbreak: Measles quite rare in older group, says ministry

FIJIANS above the age of 39-years rarely contract measles.

This is the confirmation from the Ministry of Health’s Head of Health Protection Dr Aalisha Sahukhan.

“In the older age group measles is quiet rare, so in the other countries, it is the same thing,” she said.

Dr Sahukhan said the cases the ministry had been receiving were from their targeted age groups – six months to five years and 19 to 39 years. She said the measles vaccines were “lifelong”.
