FIJI Airways Flying Fijians coach John McKee expects the Swire Shipping Fijian Latui players to step up against the Western Force in the second match of the Global Rapid Rugby Pacific Showcase Series at Churchill Park in Lautoka tomorrow.
McKee expressed disappointment with the performance of the Fijian Latui in their come from behind 38-32 victory against Kagifa Samoa in the opening match of the series last week.
Reflecting on the first match of the Global Rapid Rugby Pacific Showcase last Saturday, McKee said some players impressed in little bits and pieces.
“It is disappointing for me as the players really need to step up to play for the Flying Fijians,” he said.
“I expect to see players are able to be strong and dominant in the game over long periods of time. I think there were a few players who showed some flashes in the game but no one was really consistent across the field.
“Probably one who made a difference in the second half was Johnny Dyer when he came on. I think he gave the team some go forward at critical moments and probably helped them get over the line. McKee said the game was exciting for the fans who loved it but from his technical point of view there were many turnovers.
.”I don’t think the Fijian Latui really handled the fast line speed the Samoan brought in defence which brought in those errors,” he said.
“Credit to the Fijian Latui as they stuck to their game kept working along right to the end and grabbed the victory in the last minute.”
The match will kick off at 3pm.
