FORMER world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson says Conor McGregor will get ‘killed’ in his upcoming boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star (mixed martial art) is leaving behind the octagon for the Queensberry Rules when he takes on Mayweather Jnr in Las Vegas on August 26.
‘Iron Mike’ does not rate the Irishman’s chances, the former boxer revealed in an interview with podcast Pardon My Take that he believes McGregor made a serious mistake in agreeing to fight a boxer – who is unbeaten in his 49 fights and rated among the pound-for-pound all-time greats – at his own game.
Tyson said: “McGregor is going to get killed in boxing. I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about. Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?
“Conor put his dumb a in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby. McConor can’t kick and grab and stuff, so he won’t stand much of a chance.”
The highly-anticipated showdown between Mayweather and McGregor will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in front of mre than 20,000 spectators.
Those 20,000 will have to pay through the nose to be there.
The cheapest option for a seat in the arena clocks in at a pricey $US500 ($F1000). That is cheap compared to the cost of a front-row seat for the event, which will cost a staggering $US10,000 ($F21,000).
