The Police Blue men’s and women’s teams recorded impressive wins during the group stages of the 1st Fiji Bitter Mataso Nakorovou 7s underway at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Police Blue is the favourite for the first prize of $1000 in the women’s category after breezing through to the eliminations unscathed.
The side defeated Savusavu 34-8 and then thrashed Mala Blues Nagado 52-0 and Lilian Amazons Black 40-5.
In the men’s draw, Police Blue hammered Nukulevu 40-0 and then had a no-sweat default victory against Henibua Safari.
A few teams failed to show up for their matches.
A low turnout was also recorded.
Tournament co-ordinator James Vunituraga said the no-show was not a concern because the teams had paid their registration fees.
He said they expected a big crowd tomorrow.
