VEGETABLE and root crop suppliers to the Lautoka Municipal Market travelled from as far as Rakiraki yesterday and traded with buyers at the Tuvu border.

Lautoka market vendor Rakesh Kumar said the border this time around was much easier.

“One of the good things about our sales this year was that there was no involvement of Agro Marketing,” he said.

“We came to the border ourselves and bought the vegetables and root crops direct from our suppliers.

“There was no middleman involved,” Mr Kumar added. He said most of the buyers made arrangements with their suppliers for trade for the next two weeks.

“They will come to the border twice a week and for an extra $10 or $20 they will travel down to the border.”
