Maritime Zone: Gau retains title

GAU Secondary School finished with 15 gold medals, six silver, and one bronze medal to win the overall Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association Maritime Zone title at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Yasawa North Secondary School claimed the boys’ division with seven gold medals, six silver, and eight bronze medals while Gau Secondary School came in second with Ratu Finau College in the third spot.

Cicia High School won the girls’ division with seven gold medals, three silver, and no bronze.

Cicia team captain Ana Sorovakatini said the girls had improved in their performance compared with the past years.

“We just want to let everyone know that we can also win medals in the Coca-Cola Games on Thursday,” she said.

“Despite what we go through every day back home we still managed to come and take part.

“We want to dedicate this achievement to our families back home and especially to our fellow athletes who couldn’t make it to Suva.”

The Tubou, Lakeba, Lau lass won the 100 and 200 metres junior girls event and helped her side win the 400 metres relay.

In the 3000 metres event,

Ema Dibilovesi of Koro High School came in first with a time of 13:29:55 while Varinava Lotu of Yasawa North Secondary School took out the open boys title with a time of 11:55:64.
