Marital rape among January sexual offence stats

Update: 4:13PM THE Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) last month recorded an incident where a 36-year-old man was charged for raping his 26-year-old sister after a drinking party.

According to the statistics released by the ODPP today, relating to the number of formal indictments (information) filed in the high courts of Fiji by the DPP throughout last month, for incidents of serious sexual offences, there were 22 people charged with a total of 24 separate incidents in January.

There were 18 victims of the 22 separate incidents of whom 10 victims were under the age of  18 years.

There were seven incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

There were two separate cases of marital rape where a 46-year-old and a 27-year-old man have been charged for raping their wives.
