Marist 7s: Tuwai leads team to eliminations

Barbarian Brothers team has qualified for the second elimination of the 2020 Marist 7s this morning after a scintillating run in the pool stages at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

With the leadership of former national 7s skipper Jerry Tuwai and former Fiji 7s forward Pio Tuwai, the side was just too good for the opposition beating Vanua Levu team Naviavia Gladiators 29-0, then bundled out defending champion Police Blue 14-7 before they accounted for Sevuloni Mocenacagi’s Yamacia side in the final pool play 19-7.

Other teams that have qualified for the second elimination include Police White, Raiwasa Taveuni, Navutulevu, Tabadamu and Dritabua.

The top 16 teams from all pools have qualified to the second elimination while 32 teams battled in the pre-elimination qualifi er to secure a spot in the first elimination.

Teams such as Eastern Saints, Army Red, Waimanu Gold, Waimaro Young Boys, New Born Waibasaga and Ratu Filise to name a few have secured a place in the first elimination today.

Former Marist 7s champion Tabadamu also looked in top shape winning all their pool games.

In the U21 semi-finals, Marist defeated Tuva 12-7 and Dominion Brothers beat Ratu Filise 17-7 to qualify for the final.

In the women’s semi-final Striders thrashed Marist 2 48-0 to secure a spot in the final and will face Marist 1 which edged Army 12-5 in their semi-final.
