Marist 7s: Rural teams register early
26 February, 2018, 2:17 pm
Update: 2:17PM THE 2018 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is less than a month away and most of the teams that registered early are from rural and maritime areas.
President and chairman of Marist Rugby Club Lawrence Tikaram said this was a reflection of their commitment to develop grassroots rugby here in Fiji.
He encourages teams to register for the event before the deadline on March 9.
“We acknowledge this year that most of the teams who have registered early have come from most rural areas and the islands ,which is a great sign of the testimony of our commitment to provide them exposure to a world class environment through experiencing the highly competitive game time at the ANZ Stadium, and developing grass roots rugby at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s,” he said.
“We have our tournament approach on three phases and for now we are focused on team registrations as a key critical factor to prepare tournament proper , before we move into phase two of the tournament. It’s important that all team managers register early to avoid disappointment as the players are doing the immense sacrifice of preparation.”
Mr Tikaram said they have appointed 40 event directors who will take charge of tournament management come game day and 300 volunteers who are the back bone to managing such a large exciting and established iconic event.
“We expect to fulfill all spots before close of registrations on March 9 as we did last year, and are encouraging team managers to register early including our ladies teams,” he said.
The 2018 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s will be held at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, on March 23 to 24.
