DXC Dominion Brothers booked a quarter-final spot in the 47th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s under-21 division after cruising through its pool games unscathed yesterday at the HFC Stadium in Suva.
Dominion Brothers beat RKS Old Boys 26-0, Delasui 19-0 and Bula Brothers 24-12 during the pool stages.
The Suva-based club joins Seekadah Babas, Waitabu, Ravuka Sharks, Natabua Beez and Vunidawa Redz for the quarter-finals.
Two more teams will join the sides.
Tournament co-ordinator Koli Korovulavula said he was impressed with the performances of the youth teams on day one of competition.
“These are some very talented young men who played very exciting rugby, and it’s only day one. Tomorrow (today) we will see much tougher competition as each team will fight to move up to the semifinals,” Korovulavula said.
“It’s just very exciting watching teams like this play their hearts out, this is what the competition is all about.”
Though results regarding the women’s division had not been released, Korovulavula said they also displayed good rugby.
The men’s competition starts today.
“Exciting performance as well from our women’s division. They just keep lifting their standards and game quality over the years and we look forward to day two.
“It’s very exciting watching these teams play. Tomorrow (today) we will be having the men’s division, with the quarters of the women and U21.”
Korovulavula encouraged fans to come out in numbers and show support for their teams.
“Though there were not many fans here today, we know that people will continue to turn up as we head into day two and three of the tournament.”
