Stringent measures have been implemented at Port Denarau Marina (PDM) for boats coming in from the islands, says chief executive officer Cynthia Rasch.

“We are not allowing any boats to come through unless and until they get prior approval from the Fiji Navy which goes through the Ministry of Health,” she said.

Ms Rasch said PDM had requested the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to assist them in communicating to the village headmen on the need to assess and monitor the movement of boats between islands and the mainland.

“We have got the Fiji Navy and the Fiji police on the docks to assist us in monitoring in that, and with cases in Malolo Island and Kadavu it is very important to limit the movement from the islands to the mainland.”

She said Fiji as a whole should be cautious of movements in and out from the mainland to the islands.

The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday there were 29 active cases recorded on Malolo Island and 164 cases on Kadavu.
