FIJIANA 7s skipper Ana Maria Roqica expects a tough outing during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Fijiana side will be playing in the competition for the first time.
Roqica said the preparations for the tournament had been tough.
She said the team was supposed to be named a fortnight ago but coach Iliesa Tanivula decided to hold another fitness test last week to gauge the strength of the players.
“In the last two weeks the team was supposed to be announced but the coach decided to hold another fitness test so he could select the best 13 players,” Roqica said.
“It was a hard task for the coach to name the final squad and he made up his mind on Monday.
“The girls have given their best at training.”
The Fijiana 7s are in a tough pool with world champion Australia, England and Wales.
“We will take each game at a time,” Roqica said.
“This is the first time for us to play at the Commonwealth Games. Our aim is to win a medal.
“I believe we can do it. We are hoping for good support from the Fiji residents in Australia. We know that they will be behind us.”
