Marathon brings Ben home

THE 2017 Island Chill Suva Marathon tomorrow in Suva has attracted some international runners.
This includes Brent Weigner, who recently broke the world record for the person that has run a marathon in the most number of countries —133.
Tomorrow’s race will be his 135th as he ran one in Belarus a few weeks ago.
But someone who will have a memorable trip is New Zealand’s Ben Ashkettle.
He has maternal links in Lautoka and his mother was born and raised in the Sugar City, said marathon co-ordinator and Suva Marathon Club secretary Marita Manley.
“He will be heading to Fiji to run a very special race for him — he is here visiting family as his mum was born and grew up in Lautoka and was raised in Suva.
“He’s hoping to run a relatively quick race on Saturday as he’s an elite athlete with a marathon personal best of 2.19.15 and half marathon best of 1.03.32,” Manley said.
