FIJI Association of Sports & National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) chief executive officer Lorraine Mar, has encouraged women in this weekend’s 2020 Vodafone Women’s Inter District Championship to step up for the sake of women.
“I have encouraged women to step up and that’s what this is all about,” Mar said while launching the competition last week.
“It’s not about promoting women for the sake of promoting women. Within the corporate world, women are recognised not because they are women.”
Mar challenged Fiji women footballers during the pool draws where she was chief guest.
“To the women’s teams, it’s all about the holistic aspect of being the player and I’m very pleased to hear that Fiji Football is taking care of you as players.
“It’s not only about playing football, it is about education, how you can enhance your skills as a football player by making sure you have the right nutrition, right support, mental skills which is also very important, how you jell together as a team.”
Defending champions Labasa Football Association heads group B with Vodafone Women’s Senior League champions Ba, Tailevu Naitasiri and Navua.
Nadroga leads Pool A with Rewa, Suva and Nadi.
The Vodafone Womens IDC kicks off at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka this Friday until Sunday March 1.
