Manslaughter suspect remanded; case transferred to High Court

THE Nadi Magistrate Court has transferred the case of a 21-year-old man facing manslaughter and drug-related charges to the High Court in Lautoka.

Viliame Rokotabaivalu appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama earlier this afternoon.

His lawyer, Mark Anthony, tried to file a bail application but Magistrate Dalituicama said the application should be made in the high court.

The Nadi man has been remanded in custody awaiting his next hearing on October 23.

He faces one count of manslaughter,  one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, one count of careless driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of using motor vehicle contrary to license condition and one count of unlawful possession of an illicit drugs as marijuana was found inside the vehicle.
